I am refurbishing some older bikes (one from the 1960's and another from 1976) and needed new brake and shift cables which have a different end than most of the ones currently sold. Modern cables are around $1 each if purchased in lots of 10 and usually come with the Shimono type knobs or heads only. Some older bikes need the Campenolo type cables which have different knobs.One can buy "universal" cables like this Caden Universal Bicycle Brake Cable - Set of 2 which have a Campanolo knob at one end and the Shimono at the other but they tend to be pretty pricey. This kit contains universal cables and hosing, which when purchased separately goes for $2 to $4 a foot from local bike stores or on-line. The package comes with four cables - brake cables with housing lengths of 2 feet (front) and 5 feet (rear) and two shift cables: housing 4 ft and 6 ft. The wire inner cables are each a foot or more longer than the housing The housings have ferules crimped on both ends. Tthe package comes with extra ferules and cable crimp ends. Its a total of 7 feet of brake housing and 10 feet of shift housing. I bought 12 feet of housing from a local bike shop and it cost me $24, so I consider this a major bargain. The shift housing is supposedly SIS compatible, but I had no way of verifying that. There is plenty of housing and is likely that you will have to cut it (use a tool designed for cutting housing - other methods are total PIAs. i had enough housing from this package to refurb two bicycles and had some left over.
