Adding this Chieftains CD to my collection completes it; I now have every CD released by The Chieftains. This one is especially poignant because it is a tribute to their late colleague, the harpsichordist/harper/oboist Derek Bell, who died in 2002, and who Paddy Moloney affectionately called "Ding Dong". Derek, unlike the other members of the band, was from the north of Ireland. I believe that he was a major figure responsible for re-introducing the harp into Irish traditional music ensembles. The music reflects The Chieftain's famous branching out into other musical areas, but always retaining the Irish traditional musical flavor and spirit. The CD contains music with American country flavor, Galician music, and soloists such as Anuna and Ronnie Drew (of The Dub;liners). There are selections in which 2 founding members of the group return to play with them: Sean Potts (whistle) and Michael Tubridy (flute). The CD ends, appropriately, with Carolan's "Farewell to Music". I enthusiastically recommend this item.
